‘Alt text’ stands for ‘alternate text’ and describes images for the search engines, which without a description are unable to determine the nature of the image or how relevant it is to the search terms.
Alt text is important to SEO in that accurate descriptions of appropriate images will enhance page relevance when crawled by the search engines.
When a browser does not display graphics, the alt text appears in place of the image. Web browsers designed for the visually impaired rely on the alt text to describe the image to the user.
Alt text is in the HTML code:
<img src=“http://source.com/433-briar-condo.jpg” alt= “Vintage Lakeview condos, 433 Briar St, Chicago IL”/>
